Death and Her Faces: A Post-Anthropocentric Death Mask
Refiguring the Euro-American death mask as a substrate for decomposition and renewal, I cast human forms in living mycelium. The fungi within these sculptures overtake the human features, breaking down my constructions, and fostering new life. These works decenter human legacy and topple the anthropocentric hierarchy of life, placing value on the mycological and microbial beings that bloom from the plaster and wax casts.
